Architecture that accommodates needs and invites use. We are interested in architecture that enhances one’s daily environment, at home, at work and in the public domain.
We are based in Kentish Town at The Dove Commercial Centre, a hub for creative professionals and crafts people: We undertake a wide range of projects: furniture and exhibition design, residential and shop fitting / commercial work.
In designing low environmental impact buildings we focus first on the basics of the the building's physical envelope, its orientation and planning, before advocating any form of alternative energy generation.
Thanks to Bert’s meticulous attention to detail, proportion & an inspired choice of materials it is also an exceptionally beautiful building, a place with an atmosphere that encourages quiet contemplation and lifts the spirits.Paul de Monchaux, sculptor, de Monchaux Studio
We liked him enormously, and found him reasonable and very easy to get on with. We were delighted with the results and willingly recommend him to others who wish to make similar conversions.Malcolm Mackenzie, House in Hackney, London
...the house ...we still love it to pieces. It's like a member of the family.Lucy Woodward, House in Kew, Richmond
...I had a quite clear vision of what I wanted to achieve but needed an intelligent sounding board with the skills to implement those ideas at each site... It worked well with Bert's hands-on approach.Jali Wahlsten, Nordic Bakery cafes
"the whole ensemble is finely judged, delicate but tough, and a triumph considering the limited budget. The colour of the panels is most satisfactory and the decision to return the cladding along the face of the separating wall particularly successful”Birkin Haward, de Monchaux Studio in Architecture Today 197, 2009
…The house is lovely, it works as we wanted it…the comment we get from guests is that it is amazingly bright and spacious with impressive views. I love the small windows inserted in the girls’ bedrooms. In summer, at sunset, a comfy warm light is cast in.Barbara Colombini, House in Greenwich
