Open House 2014
Open house was a new experience for homeowners Martin and Halina but they took on the task with great relish and were excellent hosts to the high number of visitors that came all the way up to Finchley to see this modest house extension.
The weather was great and showed off the magical light produced by the tall roof light. Visitors greatly enjoyed the new living space the brick and slate terrace and the views to the garden beyond.
This is the third project by Rozeman Architects to be selected for Open House and comprised the reconversion of two apartments to a single dwelling with enlarged extension and garden room.
The deep plan and level changes between lounge and garden generate a design with an intricate section and roof as light-scoop at centre of the plan.
Materials used include dark grey metal windows and roof edging and Danish bricks, to match the existing brick used at the rear. A new porch and timber windows are detailed traditionally and are sympathetic to the existing street scape.
