Flat rethink, Marylebone, London
A small fifties apartment was reconfigured to provide open plan living space on a modest budget.
The design opens up the kitchen to the living room, creating a bigger space with distinct functional areas and a more spacious feel. This was achieved by removing the kitchen walls and adding a lower perimeter ceiling to emphasise and articulate the kitchen and study as nooks. New finishes include Merbau strip flooring throughout the flat; kitchen fronts of Merbau veneer, complimented by worksurfaces in solid white laminate. The refurbished bathroom includes new joinery with white laminate vanity tops complimented by stained plywood wall linings. The dark wood and a few furniture design classics compliment the modernist retro feel of the design.
